Gus Ipul visits DKI Sekolah Rakyat as 207 students adapt

He warned that bullying, intolerance, and physical and sexual violence are banned in the boarding environment.

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf visited new students at Sekolah Rakyat DKI Jakarta on Saturday night, July 18, at the end of the first week of Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah. Before the students, Gus Ipul urged them not to feel inferior and to believe they can adjust to the schedule and boarding life within one to two months. He also inspected the dormitory and the permanent school building, which are not yet fully completed. In the dialogue, several students described their early days, from crying and missing their parents to gradually getting used to the routine. Another female student said she had regained hope of continuing her education after having once lost heart. Gus Ipul then reminded them that there must be no bullying, ethnic or religious insults, physical or sexual violence, or acts of intolerance. According to outreach data, Sekolah Rakyat DKI Jakarta now houses 90 high school students, 90 middle school students, and 27 elementary school students.
