Gunung Lewotobi erupts again, volcanic ash reaches 1 km
The alert level remains at Siaga, and residents are barred from activity within 5 km while warned of rain-triggered lahars.
Gunung Lewotobi Laki-laki in Flores Timur, Nusa Tenggara Timur, erupted again on Friday morning at 07.35 WITA, sending an ash column about 1,000 meters above the summit. Badan Geologi recorded the eruption lasted about six minutes, with thick ash drifting southwest and west. The same volcano erupted a day earlier, producing an ash column reaching 2,500 meters and a rumbling sound. The alert level for Lewotobi Laki-laki remains Level III, or Siaga. Residents, visitors and tourists are barred from activities within a five-kilometer radius of the eruption center. PVMBG also urged people to wear masks during ashfall and watch for lahars in river channels that originate at the summit, including in Dulipali, Nobo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru and Nawakote.
