Gunung Jati forest in Bandung burns since Monday evening
Fire crews were still working overnight as officials investigated the cause. Another blaze also hit the Gunung Paseban area.
A forest fire hit the Gunung Jati area in Jatisari Village, Kutawaringin District, Bandung Regency, West Java, since Monday (27/7) evening. The flames were still visible at night, and crews were still trying to put them out. BPBD Jawa Barat said land and forest fires also broke out in the Gunung Paseban area of Kutawaringin at the same time. BPBD Jawa Barat Public Relations expert Hadi Rahmat said the fire was likely triggered by human error and spread by the wind. However, according to residents quoted by Antara, the Bandung Regency Fire Department is still investigating the exact cause. Earlier, BMKG said most areas of West Java entered the dry season earlier and it is expected to last longer this year.
