Gunung Anak Krakatau Raised to Level III After 13 Eruptions
Residents and tourists are urged to keep away from the volcano as Lampung steps up disaster alert status.
Badan Geologi Kementerian ESDM raised the alert level for Gunung Anak Krakatau in Selat Sunda, Lampung, from Level II Waspada to Level III Siaga starting Oct. 9, 2026 at 21.00 WIB. The upgrade came after visual and instrumental evaluations showed increased eruptive activity. ANTARA reported 13 eruptions within the 16.17-21.20 WIB period in a single day. BPBD Lampung also recorded nine eruptions by 19.20 WIB, with a maximum amplitude of 55 millimeters and a duration of up to 32 seconds, although the height of the eruption column was not observed. Earlier, a Friday afternoon eruption sent an ash column 250 meters above the summit. Local authorities urged residents to stay alert and avoid the area around the volcano.
