Gunmen killed 12 people and wounded nine others in a late-night attack at the Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland, east of Johannesburg, South African police said Wednesday. Police said more than 10 suspects arrived in a white Toyota Quantum around 11 p.m., entered the settlement from two access points and fired at residents in several locations before escaping in the same vehicle. Eight men and three women died at the scene, while another man later died in a hospital. Detectives, crime intelligence officers and forensic teams have started a manhunt. Police have not identified a motive for the shooting.
