What's new: Two police officers were among the injured after exchanging fire with the attacker in the city center.

A gunman killed five people and wounded about a dozen others after opening fire in Krakow's main square on Saturday, in one of Poland's deadliest public shootings in years. Police said the attacker drove into the historic center and shot at people at random from a car. Officers then confronted him, exchanged fire and shot him before taking him into custody and sending him to a hospital. Two police officers were among the injured. The attack unfolded around 3 p.m. in Krakow's market square, a UNESCO-listed tourist hub. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said authorities were investigating the background and circumstances of the shooting. President Karol Nawrocki said he was in contact with relevant services.
