Grand jury rejects charges against Cassidy Hutchinson in Jan. 6 probe
What's next: Prosecutors could still try again, but the decision blocks for now a case alleging she lied to Congress.
A federal grand jury in Washington declined to indict former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson after the Justice Department sought charges tied to her 2022 testimony to the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Hutchinson, a former aide to Mark Meadows, had become a key witness in the congressional inquiry into Donald Trump’s actions around the effort to overturn the 2020 election. Her testimony included a secondhand account about Trump’s conduct in his presidential vehicle, a detail that was later disputed by others. Hutchinson has said she stands by her testimony. ABC and Fox reported it was unclear whether prosecutors would seek another indictment.
