Granada aftershocks close museums, evacuate 600 after 3 injured

What's new: More than 500 emergency calls were logged overnight as officials kept shops, churches and offices shut and slowed metro service.

A string of aftershocks kept parts of Granada on alert after earthquakes earlier this week injured three people, damaged buildings and forced closures across the southern Spanish province. Authorities said at least 10 quakes struck overnight after a magnitude 4.7 tremor near Granada on Aug. 18 and a magnitude 5 quake on Aug. 15. About 600 people were evacuated from apartment blocks pending inspection, and health services treated 14 cases, mostly panic or anxiety attacks. Access to parts of the Alhambra was restricted, while museums, some shops, churches and sports facilities were closed. Granada Metro cut train speeds to 30 kph as a precaution.
