GovTech cuts 93 jobs in first phase of 2-year workforce overhaul

What's new: 42% of those laid off were in their 40s, while GovTech expects about 300 roles to be affected over two years.

Singapore's GovTech has cut 93 jobs in the first phase of a two-year restructuring as it remakes its workforce around in-house product ownership. In Parliament on Aug. 4, Jasmin Lau said 305 officers were affected in the first phase: 93 were retrenched, 102 were retained or redeployed, and 110 entered job-conversion or apprenticeship pathways. Workers aged 40 to 49 made up 42% of both the retrenched group and the broader affected pool, while about 30% of those laid off were older than 50. GovTech expects 7% to 9% of its roughly 3,900 staff, or about 300 roles, to be affected over two years as it reduces project and vendor-management positions and adds engineers, product managers, designers, data specialists, cybersecurity experts and platform engineers.
