Government targets renovation of 400,000 substandard homes in 2026

The goal is up sharply from 45,000 units in 2025, with recipient verification and faster regional action seen as key hurdles.

The government is targeting renovation of 400,000 substandard homes in 2026 through the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance Program, or BSPS. The target was discussed in a meeting between Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya at the Cabinet Secretariat Building in Jakarta on Sunday. The figure is a sharp increase from the 45,000-unit target for 2025. The meeting also covered speeding up the home renovation program, one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priorities. The government said coordination among ministries, agencies and regional administrations needs to be strengthened so BSPS can move faster and reach the right recipients. Earlier, Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian asked regional governments to speed up verification of prospective beneficiaries and work with BPS in regencies and cities to meet the 2026 target.
