Government expands HSS chili center as prices rise 11.86%

BPS data cited by CNBC Indonesia showed the national average price of red chilies at Rp56.537 per kg in the second week of June, up in 286 regencies and cities.

The government is pushing to strengthen chili centers in Hulu Sungai Selatan, Kalimantan Selatan, to ease food inflation pressure as prices remain volatile. Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Hanif Faisol Nurofiq inspected a chili harvest on the land of Kelompok Tani Gawi Bersama in Desa Tawia, Kecamatan Angkinang, on Thursday, while stressing the importance of managing the supply chain from farmers to markets. BPS data cited by CNBC Indonesia showed the national average price of red chilies in the second week of June 2026 reached Rp56.537 per kilogram, up 11.86 percent from May. The increase was recorded in 286 regencies and cities. In Desa Tawia, the government is preparing to develop 20 hectares of chili land under the National Food, Energy and Water Self-Sufficiency Area program, with around 5 hectares already planted. Hanif said HSS is important for maintaining supply and stabilizing chili prices in Kalimantan Selatan, even though cultivation is vulnerable to heavy rainfall.
