GMR targets Indonesia routes from India's Bhogapuram airport

After opening a new airport in Andhra Pradesh, the Kualanamu operator is also preparing to expand its investment in Indonesia.

GMR Airports is placing Indonesia among its priority markets for developing international routes from Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, or Bhogapuram Airport, in Andhra Pradesh, India. The company wants to open direct India-Southeast Asia connectivity and turn Bhogapuram into a new hub on India’s east coast. Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer GMR Airports SGK Kishore said the airport’s location is seen as strategic for linking India with Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Beyond Indonesia, GMR is also targeting Vietnam, the Philippines and Greece. Separately, Business Chairman GMR Srinivas Bommidala said the company is ready to expand investment in Indonesia after entering Kualanamu Airport. Narendra Modi inaugurated Bhogapuram Airport on Aug. 1, and it is targeted to begin full operations on Aug. 17, 2026.
