Ghislaine Maxwell seeks to void 2021 sex-trafficking conviction
What's new: Prosecutors urged a federal judge to reject the bid, calling her claims speculative and procedurally barred.
Ghislaine Maxwell is trying again to overturn her 2021 sex-trafficking conviction, arguing that documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act reveal constitutional and legal violations in her case. In filings unsealed Wednesday in Manhattan federal court, Maxwell said the records show evidence was withheld, witnesses gave false testimony and lawyers for Jeffrey Epstein’s accusers acted as de facto prosecutors. She is serving a 20-year sentence in Texas for helping Epstein recruit and groom underage girls. Federal prosecutors pushed back in a lengthy rebuttal, saying her arguments were baseless, filed too late or would not have changed the jury’s verdict. A judge will decide whether to grant her request for relief or an evidentiary hearing.
