GAO found DOGE’s $110 billion savings claims overstated, unsupported

A Government Accountability Office review found major flaws in DOGE’s public claims that it saved $110 billion through canceled federal contracts, grants and leases. The watchdog said multiple problems limited the transparency and reliability of the figures and that DOGE failed to provide enough information to verify the method behind 96% of the reported savings. Among the findings, GAO said 2,503 of 13,476 contracts listed as terminated showed no termination action. It also found lease savings were overstated: DOGE cited $113 million from 264 lease cuts, while the leases listed added up to $53.5 million, with 108 already in the termination process before DOGE was created. GAO urged a warning that the website is not a reliable source.
