Malaysia immigration system outage causes long Singapore lines
A five-hour outage on May 28 jammed Johor crossings and forced manual checks at most of Malaysia's 114 immigration posts.
A nationwide outage in Malaysia's immigration system triggered long queues at Johor checkpoints heading to Singapore on Thursday, May 28, during the peak hour for cross-border workers. Screening at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar complex linked to Woodlands and the Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar linked to the Tuas Second Link had to be handled manually after the computer system went down for about five hours. Local media reported the disruption began around 04.30, while Immigration Department Director General Zakaria Shaaban said the incident occurred from about 05.00 to 08.45 because of a technical problem at the MyIMMs data center. According to an Interior Ministry official, the outage affected most of Malaysia's 114 immigration checkpoints. Zakaria said the system was not hacked and has resumed operations.
