FPI ready to mobilize crowds to press for Bocelli concert cancellation
PB HMI instead urges open dialogue, saying the concert could lift the creative economy while keeping solidarity with Palestine intact.
Opposition to Andrea Bocelli's concert in Indonesia has hardened after Front Persaudaraan Islam said it was ready to mobilize crowds to support calls for cancellation. DPP FPI Chairman Muhammad Alatas said pressure could come through demonstrations, social media campaigns, and visits to the promoter. He said the rejection was tied to Bocelli's stance, which is seen as supportive of Israel, and argued that the Palestine issue should not be overshadowed by economic reasons. On the other hand, PB HMI Deputy Secretary General Angga Putra Pratama called for open dialogue. He said international concerts can also serve as a means of cultural diplomacy and drive hotels, transportation, food, tourism, and creative workers. Promoter Shoemaker Live still has the “Andrea Bocelli Romanza 30th Anniversary World Tour Indonesia” scheduled for October 31, 2026 at Borobudur, Magelang, and November 3, 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
