He was also fined Rp200 juta and ordered to pay Rp32 juta in restitution jointly with four other convicts.
Denpasar District Court sentenced former member of the Bali Police Ditpolairud, I Putu Setiyawan, to three years in prison in a human trafficking case involving prospective ship crew members. The verdict, read on Thursday, also imposed a Rp200 juta fine and an obligation to pay Rp32 juta in restitution jointly with four other defendants. The panel of judges led by Ni Kadek Kusuma Wardani found that Setiyawan abused his status as a police officer when he helped recruit and place prospective ABK KM Awindo 2A in August 2025. Prosecutors had previously sought a four-year prison term. In the indictment, the victims were promised jobs and attractive pay, but were then assigned to a squid fishing vessel for up to 10 months, with longer working hours, restricted communication, seizure of identity documents, debt bondage and threats.
