Forest owner Marinakis files defamation suit over Palace fan banner
What's new: The case was lodged in the High Court on Monday, nearly a year after the banner appeared during a 1-1 draw.
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has filed a defamation claim against Crystal Palace over a banner displayed by supporters during the clubs' 1-1 Premier League draw at Selhurst Park last August. Court papers lodged Monday in the High Court name CPFC Ltd and "persons unknown" as defendants. The banner depicted Marinakis holding a gun to midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White's head and included references to blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking and corruption, allegations Marinakis has repeatedly denied. Palace were fined £50,000 by the Football Association in February after being found guilty of failing to prevent improper or provocative supporter behavior at the match.
