Forest fire smoke moves away from Jabodetabek as 478 hotspots tracked
BMKG recorded PM2.5 in Kemayoran at 46.7-109.7 micrograms per cubic meter, while South Sumatra had the most hotspots at 189.
The spread of smoke from forest and land fires began moving away from western Java, including Jabodetabek, on Saturday, although residual smoke was still detected over Pesisir Barat Banten at an altitude of 10,000-18,000 feet. BMKG said smoke briefly entered western Java on Friday, but only for a short time and did not affect surface air quality. In Kemayoran, Jakarta, PM2.5 concentrations were recorded at 46.7 to 109.7 micrograms per cubic meter, ranging from moderate to unhealthy. Air quality index data from the Environment Ministry also showed Kelapa Gading, Menteng, and Kebun Jeruk in the unhealthy category. Outside Jabodetabek, smoke was still observed across much of Sumatera and Kalimantan, central to southern Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. On 16 October 2026, BMKG recorded 478 high-confidence hotspots, with South Sumatra posting the most at 189.
