Forest fire hits Way Kambas, access hinders firefighting
The affected area in East Lampung has not yet been mapped, while joint teams work to keep the fire from spreading further.
A forest fire has hit the Way Kambas National Park area in Lampung Timur Regency, Lampung, since Friday (21/8) afternoon, and firefighting was still under way as of Saturday (22/8). MHD Zaidi, head of the Way Kambas National Park office, confirmed the fire and said park staff were deployed alongside TNI-Polri personnel and volunteers. The office has not yet been able to determine the size of the land burned or which parts of the area were affected because data collection is still ongoing. Operations in the field are also hampered by difficult access to the location, which vehicles have trouble reaching. Video circulating on social media shows flames burning dry forest vegetation during the dry season. For now, the priority is to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the area.
