Florida Rep. Cory Mills lost GOP primary in 7th District by 12 points
Why it matters: The defeat followed an ethics probe and removes a scandal-hit incumbent from a once safely Republican seat.
Republican Rep. Cory Mills lost the Florida 7th Congressional District primary to former local TV news anchor Ryan Elijah by about 12 percentage points, according to an Associated Press race call. The loss ends Mills’ bid for a third term in a central Florida district that stretches from Orlando’s northern suburbs to the coast south of Daytona Beach. Mills had campaigned as "Trump Endorsed," but President Donald Trump did not repeat that backing in the final stretch, and Gov. Ron DeSantis said he did not support Mills. The race unfolded as the House Ethics Committee investigates Mills over allegations of sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations, which he has denied.
