Flooding in Tapanuli Tengah Forces 145 Residents Into Church

Flooding from heavy rain inundated parts of Tapanuli Tengah Regency, North Sumatra, since Saturday (18/7) and forced 145 residents to shelter at the HKBP Sipange Church building in Tukka District. The North Sumatra BPBD said overflow from the Aek Silaga-laga River sent water into homes in Sipange Village. Standing water also hit Hutanabolon and Bonalumban after a levee broke, leaving adult waist-deep water in the settlement. In Badiri District, flooding in Lopian Village briefly covered the road surface, preventing motorcycles and cars from passing. Homes were also affected in Pinangsori and Albion, Pinangsori District, as drainage overflowed. No fatalities were reported. BPBD, TNI, Basarnas and residents evacuated victims, monitored the levee and operated a public kitchen.
