Flash floods engulf Padang, dozens remain trapped

The By Pass road in front of Siti Rahma Hospital and the Tunggul Hitam area were impassable, causing long traffic jams.

Flash floods engulfed several areas in Padang, West Sumatra, after heavy rain that began Saturday (10/10) afternoon, and dozens of residents were still reported trapped into the night. Padang city disaster agency BPBD deployed evacuation teams, focusing on the two worst-hit districts, Kuranji and Koto Tangah. In Kuranji, the worst point was Guo Lapau Munggu, while in Koto Tangah flooding inundated Lumin Park and Kampung Apa. The Luminpark complex in Lubuk Minturun, which was also hit by flooding at the end of November 2025, was flooded again. High water also cut off access on the By Pass in front of Rumah Sakit Siti Rahma and in front of the Tunggul Hitam public cemetery, preventing vehicles from passing and causing long lines.
