Fire at Aramco’s Jazan refinery is extinguished with no injuries

Firefighters put out a fire early Aug. 9 at a facility inside Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia, and the Saudi Energy Ministry said no one was hurt. The ministry said Aramco security teams brought the blaze under control and authorities were completing follow-up procedures, but it did not give a cause. The refinery, on the Red Sea near the Yemen border, can process 400,000 barrels of crude a day. It had already been shut since July 27 after what consultancy IIR described as a Houthi attack that damaged the site’s integrated gasification complex and tank farm area. The incident adds to concern that attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure could deepen disruption to Red Sea shipping and regional oil supply routes.
