FBI probes water-system cyberattacks across at least 7 US states
What's new: Minnesota reported more than 30 water systems were hit, and the FBI said some attacks disrupted operations.
Federal investigators are examining cyberattacks on water systems in at least seven US states after Minnesota reported a coordinated attack affecting more than 30 systems. The FBI said some of the activity degraded water operations, while local authorities in New Jersey, South Dakota and Georgia also reported similar incidents. US media have reported that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is looking into a possible Iranian link, though officials have not publicly assigned blame. President Donald Trump faulted Minnesota officials at a July 31 Cabinet meeting, while Gov. Tim Walz said Trump knew who was responsible and that other states were also hit.
