FBI foiled alleged drone-and-sniper plot at White House UFC event
What's new: Court papers tie one Ohio suspect to encrypted planning chats, and officials say more suspects remain at large.
The FBI stopped an alleged multistate plot targeting Sunday’s UFC event at the White House and took multiple suspects into custody, according to FBI Director Kash Patel and court documents unsealed Tuesday. Prosecutors say the plan called for explosive-laden drones to hit nearby buildings, driving crowds toward a sniper team, followed by a second group trying to breach the White House gate. One suspect, 19-year-old Tycen Proper of Ohio, was charged with conspiracy to commit an offense against the US and attempted murder of a federal officer. The invite-only event drew about 4,300 people to the South Lawn, with another 85,000 at a nearby fan zone. Secret Service officials called it a serious threat and said the investigation is continuing.
