Explosion at MAN 3 Padang leads to detention of 17-year-old
Police seized items believed tied to a homemade bomb and are probing the suspect's target and motive after online learning.
Densus 88 Antiteror Polri is investigating an explosion at MAN 3 Padang, Sumatera Barat, that occurred around 11:30 WIB on Tuesday. Police have detained a student identified as R, 17, who is suspected of assembling the explosive material and is being questioned at Polresta Padang with a parent present.
From the scene, officers seized a black box, a black bag, a mobile phone, firecrackers, a knife, arrows, marbles, and bolts. Densus 88 spokesman Mayndra Eka Wardhana said the suspect's initial statement indicated he learned to assemble bombs online and was inspired by the case at SMA Negeri 72 Jakarta in 2025. Police are also still examining who was the intended target of the planned act. No one was killed or injured, but the blast startled students and damaged several items.
