Ex-Adams aide Frank Carone charged in $100,000 bribery case

What's new: Prosecutors say the scheme steered a $6.8 million migrant shelter contract to a hotel city officials had deemed unsuitable.

Former New York City Hall chief of staff Frank Carone was arrested Wednesday on federal bribery charges tied to a migrant shelter contract, extending corruption scrutiny around former Mayor Eric Adams' inner circle. Prosecutors allege Carone used his position to collect more than $100,000 in payoffs for helping steer a $6.8 million city contract to a hotel owned by Yan Po Zhu, even after social services officials considered the site unfit. Carone's brother, Anthony Carone, hotel owner Zhu and hotel employee Crystal Chen were also charged. Adams was not accused in the indictment. All four defendants pleaded not guilty through their lawyers.
