Everton beat Crystal Palace 2-0 for first opening-day win since 2021
What's new: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry scored after Palace hit the post twice and lost Chadi Riad to a knee injury.
Everton opened the Premier League season with a 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace, their first victory in a league opener since 2021. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put David Moyes' side ahead before Thierno Barry finished from an Iliman Ndiaye cross to seal the result. Palace created the better early chances but failed to score, with Jordan Pickford saving Eddie Nketiah's shot on to a post and Jean-Philippe Mateta also striking the woodwork. The defeat spoiled Pierre Sage's first league match in charge of Palace and brought another setback when defender Chadi Riad went off late with a potentially serious knee injury.
