EU links Chinese military training to Russian troops in Ukraine war
What's new: The bloc also sanctioned 2 mainland Chinese manufacturers and 2 Hong Kong shipping firms over support for Russia.
The European Union said it had verified reports that the Chinese military trained Russian personnel for combat in Ukraine, escalating pressure on Beijing as Brussels weighs a tougher policy on trade and security. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas raised the finding after foreign ministers met in Luxembourg on June 15, but did not detail the evidence. Reuters reported in May that about 200 Russian troops were secretly trained in China in late 2025, with instruction focused on drone use. China has cast itself as neutral in the war, but the EU says Chinese companies have supplied dual-use goods that help Russia’s military. The bloc on June 15 added Shenzhen Minghuaxin, Xinxiang Richful Lubricant Additive Company, Glory Shipping HK Limited and Nord Axis Ltd to its sanctions list.
