EU backs Zelensky in Brussels as Trump blasts refinery strikes

What's new: Zelensky is seeking winter aid on air defense, energy and funding as Ukraine still faces a $32.6 billion budget gap next year.

European leaders closed ranks behind Volodymyr Zelensky in Brussels as his relationship with President Donald Trump deteriorated over Ukraine's renewed strikes on Russian oil refineries. Zelensky said Kyiv would no longer hold to the energy-target ceasefire Trump had promoted because Russia never observed it and kept attacking Ukrainian infrastructure. At the EU summit, Zelensky pushed for a winter support package covering air defense, energy and financing. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen backed tighter pressure on Moscow and said sanctions should stay until Russia stops the war. The diplomatic rift comes as Ukraine faces continued drone and missile attacks and uncertainty over future US intelligence and weapons support.
