ESDM tightens coal DMO oversight, sets 212 million tons for PLN
By May, only 144 million tons of the 154 million-ton 2026 need had been contracted, with 130.5 million tons expected to ship.
The ESDM Ministry is tightening oversight of the domestic market obligation, or DMO, for coal to secure PLN power plant needs in 2026. The Directorate General of Mineral and Coal has assigned mining companies with RKAB permits to supply a total of 212 million metric tons, above PT PLN (Persero)'s need of 154 million tons. As of May 2026, contracted assignment volume had reached 144 million tons, with actual deliveries estimated at 130.5 million tons. Directorate General of Mineral and Coal chief Tri Winarno said faster contracting by PLN EPI is important because contracts are the basis for deliveries to PLTU. ESDM is also continuing coordination with PLN Energi Primer Indonesia and mining companies so second-half supply arrives on time, in the required volume and plant specifications.
