ESDM has not set 2026 nickel RKAB volume ahead of July revision
New proposals can be filed only after the second-quarter report, by July 31 at the latest, and still face market and smelter reviews.
The ESDM Ministry has not set the total 2026 nickel RKAB volume even as speculation grows over changes to production quotas ahead of next month’s revision. Tri Winarno, Director General of Minerals and Coal, said the government is still reviewing proposed changes from companies and has not decided on any specific production figure. Tri said the process is an assessment of industry needs, not a loosening of quotas. ESDM said production must be maintained so ore supplies to smelters remain available, but not so high that commodity prices fall and reserves are depleted faster. Under ESDM Minister Regulation No. 17 of 2025, companies may submit RKAB changes after periodic reporting through the second quarter, no later than July 31 of the current year.
