England target best finish in 60 years against France in Miami

A win on July 19 would give England third place, their best World Cup finish since winning the title in 1966.

England will face France in the 2026 World Cup third-place playoff at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday (19/7) at 04.00 WIB. Coach Thomas Tuchel said the match offers his team a chance to end the tournament with their best result in 60 years. Since winning the title in 1966, England's best World Cup finishes were fourth place in 1990 and 2018, after losing the third-place match. England arrive after being ousted by Argentina in the semifinals, while France were stopped by Spain. Defender John Stones acknowledged the disappointment from the semifinal still lingers, but said the team must quickly shift focus to pursuing the bronze medal.
