Egg prices fall, Kementan asks BGN and offtakers to absorb stocks
The government is also weighing eggs as a food aid option, while the Rp26.500 per kg benchmark is aimed at supporting farmgate prices.
Kementerian Pertanian has asked the Badan Gizi Nasional and major livestock buyers to immediately purchase broiler eggs from farmers after producer prices fell during the Idul Adha holiday and school break. Kementan Secretary-General Suwandi said prices are now below the benchmark, with the reference level around Rp26.000 per kg and some market prices at only Rp19.000-Rp24.000. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman also called on offtakers to buy at the government purchase reference price of Rp26.500 per kg for broiler eggs. The government is preparing other measures, including making eggs an option for food aid in certain conditions, opening distribution from production centers in Java to areas outside Java, and arranging corn feed support through Bulog.
