eBay, ex-executives pay $56 million in stalking case settlement

eBay and several former executives agreed to pay nearly $56 million to David and Ina Steiner, the Massachusetts couple targeted in a 2019 harassment and stalking campaign tied to criticism of the company on their EcommerceBytes site. The settlement resolves a 2021 civil lawsuit over threats, bizarre deliveries and in-person surveillance, including an attempt to put a GPS tracker on the couple’s car. CNBC reported eBay will pay about $46.1 million, with additional payments from former CEO Devin Wenig and other former executives. Seven former eBay employees previously pleaded guilty in the case. James Baugh, eBay’s former senior director of safety and security, was sentenced to nearly five years in prison.
