Bandung council urges relocation of street vendors to protect sales

The proposal includes signs at old sites, promotion through government channels, and post-relocation economic reviews.

Radea Respati, chairman of Commission I of the Bandung City DPRD, said the arrangement of PKL and UMKM in Bandung still often stops at physical relocation, without steps to keep vendors’ businesses running. He said the pattern makes it hard for longtime customers to find the new location, causing sales to fall and, in some cases, forcing vendors to close. Radea urged the local government to prepare a more comprehensive relocation procedure, including posting signs at the old site with the new address, phone number, and the vendors’ social media accounts. He also asked that government digital channels be used to spread information about the new location. In addition, he criticized relocations that end only with cash compensation and social media posts, without assistance, a suitable replacement site, and an evaluation of the economic impact after vendors are moved.
