DPR stresses HAM law revision to protect citizens, not powers

Komisi XIII DPR stressed that the revision of Law No. 39/1999 on HAM will focus on strengthening protection of citizens' rights, not on a contest over authority between institutions. Komisi XIII chairman Willy Aditya said discussions in DPR will be directed toward promoting, protecting, fulfilling and respecting HAM, with public participation opened as widely as possible. Separately, criticism emerged after Komnas HAM said it was not involved in drafting by the Kementerian HAM and argued the draft did not reflect its input. Deputy Minister of HAM Mugiyanto said aspirations from the Papua community will also be included in the final draft, while the government is targeting deliberation and passage of the revised HAM law in 2026.
