DPR pushes bylaw under Pesantren law to limit admin burden
The push also seeks graduation recognition, budget access and preparing santri for AI and new technology.
Deputy Speaker of the DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal has called for implementing regulations under Law No. 18 of 2019 on Pesantren to be drafted without adding administrative burdens for pesantren. Speaking at a Cipasung Pesantren alumni forum in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Saturday (6/6), he said the law’s benefits have not been fully felt because some administrators and alumni still do not understand the scope of state support. Cucun highlighted the need for easier graduation recognition and access to funding, including assistance through Dana Abadi Pesantren. He also urged pesantren to strengthen santri capacity to face technological advances and AI. According to him, models such as the Cambridge Curriculum and International Baccalaureate can be adapted to pesantren character without losing their Islamic identity.
