DPR opens labor input on new Employment bill

The initial draft has 19 chapters and 224 articles, with completion due before Oct. 31, 2026 under the Constitutional Court ruling.

DPR leaders held a meeting with several labor unions at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday to open a channel for input in drafting a new Employment bill. Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the bill was being prepared after the Constitutional Court ordered the labor cluster to be separated from the Job Creation law and set a deadline of before Oct. 31, 2026. DPR said the academic paper and initial draft submitted to Commission IX contain 19 chapters and 224 articles. The material covers layoffs prevention, wages, PKWT, outsourcing, training and apprenticeships, job placement, workers outside employment relations, and foreign workers. Earlier, 18 confederations and 157 labor federations had submitted a proposed draft that also includes domestic workers and digital workers.
