DPR budget panel cuts 2027 MBG spending forecast to Rp174 trillion
The estimate uses 21,000 kitchens, down from about 27,000 sites, while the final 2027 budget is due in September.
Said Abdullah, chairman of the DPR budget panel, estimated that the free nutritious meals program budget in 2027 would fall to about Rp174 trillion from Rp268 trillion. The change is tied to adjustments in the number of nutrition service units, or MBG kitchens, and total beneficiaries.
According to Said, reducing service points from about 27,000 to 21,000 locations could save tens of trillions of rupiah. He added the figure could still change because discussions on the 2027 APBN bill with the government will not conclude until approval in September 2026.
Previously, the MBG ceiling for 2026 had already been cut from Rp335 trillion to Rp268 trillion. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the cut followed President Prabowo Subianto's directive for the National Nutrition Agency funds to be used more efficiently. As of 30 April 2026, MBG budget realization stood at Rp75 trillion.
