DPR approves Police Law revision a day after DIM review

The government says the revision covers 20 substance points in seven areas, including retirement age and postings outside the chain of command.

DPR approved a revision of the Police Law in a plenary session on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, a day after the House Commission III working committee reviewed the list of issues. Deputy Minister of Law Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej said the discussion moved quickly because the revision contains only about 20 new substance points grouped into seven areas. Those areas include Polri duties, affirmative recruitment for people with disabilities based on specific expertise, social security for personnel, retirement age limits, and assignments of active members outside the structure. Under the revision, the retirement age for Bintara and Tamtama is set at 59 years, while Perwira will retire at 60 years. Koalisi Masyarakat Sipil untuk Reformasi Sektor Kepolisian rejected the fast-track process and said the rushed review risked producing problematic rules, including on the placement of active personnel in civilian posts.
