Jakarta prepares electric tram, LEZ for Kota Tua revival
The tram line is planned to run through the tourist district near Sunda Kelapa, with revitalization targeted for completion in 2029.
The Jakarta provincial government is preparing an electric tram and a low-emission zone, or Low Emission Zone (LEZ), as part of the revitalization of Kota Tua. Head of the Jakarta Kota Tua Area Management Unit Denny Aputra said vehicle restrictions will be imposed after development of the area is completed. The revived tram will run on electricity, with a route crossing the Kota Tua tourist area and connecting to several strategic points, including the area near Sunda Kelapa, although the final alignment is still awaiting a government decision. The revitalization effort will also be supported by integration with MRT, Transjakarta and Stasiun Jakarta Kota. The Jakarta provincial government is still prioritizing the Lebak Bulus-Kota MRT project, which is targeted for completion in early 2029.
