Jakarta urges vigilance over haze from forest fires, use N95 masks
Haze in Jakarta has eased since October 16, but vulnerable groups are still urged to limit outdoor activity.
The Jakarta provincial government is urging residents to remain alert to haze from forest and land fires that has reached the capital, even as conditions have been reported improving since Friday, October 16. Residents are asked to monitor air quality through official channels from BMKG, the Ministry of Environment and the Jakarta Environment Agency, and to wear N95 or KN95 masks when outside. Children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with respiratory disorders are advised to reduce strenuous outdoor activity and seek medical care immediately if symptoms appear. In the midst of the haze impact, forestry law expert Sadino said wildfire prevention must be expanded to villages through sustained education, alternatives to land clearing without burning, and objective law enforcement.
