DKI waives container parking fees after Cakung-Cilincing gridlock

The waiver runs July 22-Aug. 5, while empty containers are routed to Terminal Tanah Merdeka to prevent roadside backups.

The DKI Jakarta provincial government has waived retribution fees for empty containers parked in the Cakung-Cilincing area after severe traffic congestion since July 21, 2026. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said the discretion will apply from July 22 to Aug. 5 so containers no longer stop along Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing. Empty containers are being directed to Terminal Tanah Merdeka, prepared as a buffer zone with capacity for more than 200 containers. According to Pramono, the queue was triggered by an imbalance in the flow of imported containers entering Jakarta and a sharp drop in empty containers for export. The DKI Transportation Office has also closed several U-turns in Cakung, Babek and Jakarta Garden City. Budi Awaluddin said traffic engineering started Wednesday night and has gradually restored flow in both directions.
