Disabled 10-year-old boy dies in Surabaya, family suspects bullying
Police are still investigating after the family cited CCTV showing two neighboring children entering and leaving the home before the boy was found.
A 10-year-old boy with Down syndrome identified as Z was found dead at his home in Rungkut, Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday (12/10/2026). The family suspects Z was bullied and assaulted by two neighboring children after checking the home’s CCTV footage. The victim’s father, Selaras Abdul Wahid, said his wife, Nurul Fadilah, returned from the market at about 09.20 WIB and found their son, who used a wheelchair, fallen on the porch and turning blue. The family then reviewed footage showing two children entering and leaving the house that morning. Selaras also said there was a shoelace noose around the victim’s neck, while an autopsy at Polda Jawa Timur reportedly found liquid laundry soap in his stomach. Z was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead. Police said the case is still under investigation.
