Dino Patti Djalal: World has until 2030 to tackle climate
At INZS 2026 in Jakarta, he urged Indonesia to pursue 100 GW of solar power to keep a 45% global emissions cut within reach.
Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia founder Dino Patti Djalal warned that the world has only until 2030 to contain the climate crisis. Speaking at the opening of the Indonesia Net Zero Summit 2026 in Jakarta on 1 August, he said climate change must be the top priority because its effects spread to health, the economy, energy, water, migration and security. He said the 2030 deadline is critical because the world needs to cut global carbon emissions by about 45 percent to keep warming from exceeding the 1.5 degrees Celsius threshold. Dino also urged the Indonesian government to deliver its target of 100 gigawatt of solar power, protect forests and peatlands including in Papua, develop the carbon market and strengthen climate diplomacy. He said the 100 GW solar project could attract investor confidence and ESG funds to Indonesia.
