At NU congress, Prabowo acknowledges NU-Muhammadiyah support
In Jombang, the President linked backing from the two groups to progress on food and energy self-sufficiency and 62 million MBG beneficiaries.
President Prabowo Subianto said support from Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah was an important factor in bringing him to power as a “mandataris rakyat.” He made the remarks while opening the 35th NU congress in Jombang, East Java, on Thursday (27/8). In his speech, Prabowo described NU as a historic institution that made major contributions to Indonesia’s independence struggle. He also said the government would continue to strengthen and empower NU, NU Islamic boarding schools, and Muhammadiyah. At the same forum, Prabowo outlined several government achievements, including food self-sufficiency, a target of energy self-sufficiency, and the Free Nutritious Meals Program, which he said has reached 62 million beneficiaries.
