At Modi dinner, Prabowo calls democracy the best system
The remarks came during Modi's July 6-8 state visit, which also included parliamentary events and a stop at Prambanan.
President Prabowo Subianto called democracy the best system, even though in practice it is often marked by challenges, traps and attempts to hijack the political process. He delivered the remarks at a dinner with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 7. Prabowo said democracy is important to achieve justice, hope and inclusive government, and he urged all parties to protect confidence in the system. In the same series of events, he also said India's democratic experience could offer lessons for Indonesia. Modi's visit to Indonesia took place on July 6-8 2026 as a reciprocal visit after Prabowo's trip to India, with events in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, including a visit to Candi Prambanan.
