Deputy minister opens labor rule revision, urges union input

The government also is focusing on membership-data checks for unions and stronger labor oversight, including outsourcing.

Deputy Manpower Minister Afriansyah Noor has called on labor unions to be involved in refining labor regulations. He said the policies being updated must come from dialogue that can accommodate workers' needs while preserving business continuity. The government, he said, is opening space for workers' unions, confederations and other stakeholders to provide input. Beyond the rule revision, Afriansyah said labor inspections need to be strengthened so the rules are applied consistently and provide protection for workers as well as legal certainty for businesses. He also raised the need to verify union and confederation organizations with more accurate membership data. The government, he added, continues to update outsourcing rules to strengthen protection of wages and social security.
